Is it normal to see some white back light on LCD tvs during black background moments?
Just purchased a Sony 40" LCD, 120 hz, HDTV/1080p TV. And my only gripe is when my screen is showing a black background, you can see the areas of the screen where the whiter areas from the backlight show. It's barely noticeable, but I wanted to make sure it's a fairly normal thing w LCD tvs?
It's a flaw of LCD TV and yes it's normal. The best LCD/LED TVs can keep this down, or make it harder to detect. Something to remember when people are shouting that LCD is better than plasma.

GIO expected to reach revenues of over NT$4.5 billion in 2010, NT$9 billion in 2011
GIO Optoelectronics, a Taiwan-based maker of CCFLs and LED light bars, is expected to generate revenues of more than NT$4.5 billion (US$147 million) in 2010, 2.37 times the figure posted in 2009, and those of NT$9 billion in 2011, according to industry sources.
